This year’s MOWW Huntsville YLC will be similar to the one last year. Last year 95 high school students participated. Of them, 17 were Huntsville YLC graduates selected to serve as the leaders for conducting the conference set up by the Huntsville Chapter members and 78 were first timers representing Alabama and five other states.
Participants in the 2009 Huntsville YLC will learn about leadership, our American heritage, patriotism and the free enterprise system from civic, educational, military, and industrial leaders who will share their knowledge and insight from experience. The schedule will include time for questions and answers in each session and a Q&A panel session with professionals (managers, engineers, law enforcement, attorneys, medical and the military) from the local area focusing on leadership in the workplace. Students will experience a full day of Space Camp's Aviation Challenge including team building and hands-on training with genuine F-15 and F-18 jet simulators. YLC teams will prepare for and conduct a mock trial with an incumbent Circuit Court judge presiding.
A key feature of the Huntsville YLC is using past years participants as leaders of the conference. This allows them to experience leadership by application and put into practice skills they learned via the YLC. Typically, 15% of the class will be composed of these student leaders.
Visit Schedule and Photo Gallery for a more detailed look at the YLC agenda and activities.
